All areas of our community will be scrutinized by the two AIB judges, who will be interested in how our businesses and residents handle floral displays, landscaping, and general tidiness. The judge’s visit will be on July 7th and 8th. Our AIB Committee would appreciate any help you can provide to make Tipp City a colorful, inviting place this summer. Pulling weeds, trimming shrubs, planting flowers, and general clean-up are all ways to enhance your property and help the community during judging.

Tipp City Public Library will welcome Tony Rimkus, of the Ohio State Beekeepers Association (OSBA), when he speaks on bees and beekeeping at noon on Tuesday, July 01.
Over the past few years, beekeepers have sounded a unified warning that our bee population is in decline, and the trend must be reversed to avoid major agricultural losses. Without bees to pollinate many of our fruits and vegetables, major crops would be lost. Compound the potential agricultural situation with the negative impact to ensue with the loss of the honey supply, and it becomes evident that the welfare of these little critters merits serious concern.
In 2007 members of the OSBA recognized the need to act quickly in order to ensure a healthy and productive bee population for the future. Mr. Rimkus will address the current state of bees, the OSBA’s efforts to improve the quality of queen bee stock, how to setup and maintain a healthy and productive apiary, and other beekeeping related topics.
Registration is appreciated. The library provides bottled water for all of its brown bag programs.

GRADES SIX AND UP
Teen reading club members are invited to “Transform Trash Into Treasure: Origami and Papermaking” on Thursday, June 26 at 2 p.m. Two classic teen programs are combined for one great event. Registration is appreciated.
Also for teens, “Find Your Balance”, a free yoga class is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 05. Participants will learn gentle poses to stretch the body and encourage relaxation. Yoga has gained the respect of many in the mainstream medical community as a valid method to strengthen muscles, increase flexibility, and reduce tension. Learn more about it at this class. Registration is requested.

READING CLUB
If you haven’t signed up for summer reading club yet, there’s still time to take part. Many great programs and prize give aways continue through July. Call the library at 667-3826 with any questions, or visit at 11 E. Main St. See a full listing of all summer reading club information on the Internet at http://www.tippcitylibrary.org.

Bebris is a perfect fit to lead this discussion. She has focused a great deal of her writing career on furthering the adventures of some of Austen’s most well-known characters. In fact, her novel Pride and Prescience, which featured Austen’s Pride and Prejudice characters, was named in the top five mysteries of 2004 by Library Journal, according to her biography at www.carriebebris.com.

Beyond her fascination with Austen’s work, Bebris has proven herself a multi-faceted author. She has two fantasy novels to her credit, freelances for Better Homes and Gardens and other publications, and she has also had success as an editor. For her Tipp Library visit, Bebris will lead a discussion of Austen’s classic, Emma. She will also share her thoughts on Austen’s enduring popularity. Copies of the book are available now at the front desk, and everyone is welcome. Registration is requested.

The Downtown Tipp City Partnership and Tipp-Monroe Community services are teaming on a project they hope will make believing worth seeing. Volunteers will continue to work until Saturday at 11 a.m., when The Windows on Tippecanoe will officially open on the east wall of Midwest Memories at 20 W. Main St.

The display consists of 50 murals painted on an eighth of an inch thick piece of masonite, framed in wood, and then attached to the cement wall. Some of the works are placed in wooden door frames where the panes of glass are usually found. The resulting effect gives viewer the impression they are looking inside of a home or business in Tipp City.

Ellen Cotterman and Molly Spencer are heading up the project which was suggested by Cotterman after seeing a similar Windows project in Michigan. The display will be in place until September. At that time the artwork will be sold at an auction on Oct. 4. All money raised will be split between the Downtown Tipp City Partnership and the newly regenerated Tipp City Arts Council.

“This has long been a dream of mine to have a strong arts council in Tipp City,” said Tipp Monroe Community Service (TMCS) Director Kathy Taylor. She said in the 1980s the local arts council, with funding through the Ohio Arts Council, where able to bring in various artists, dancers from the Dayton Ballet.

“We even had an opera singer come and talk to school kids and give a performance for the general public,” Taylor said. “There are so many different things we could do if we all work together,” she said. She added while competition is tough, there are many grant opportunities available to fund such performances. The council would work under the auspice of TMCS.

“So far everyone who has seen the Windows project has been very positive and said they love it,” Taylor stated. “They think it’s so unique and so wonderful and ask if we’ll be doing it again next year. “We’ll have to see,” she laughed. “It takes a whole lot of work from a lot of people.”
