The Community Night Concert series will kickoff this Friday in downtown Tipp City. The series has become a hometown tradition over the years and is held on the first Friday evening of each month, June through September. The concert and corresponding family friendly activities are a wonderful addition to the summer activities of the community. Carriage rides will be offered throughout the evening. The event is free to the public and hosted by Tippecanoe Main Street. Though some seating will be available, audiences are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.

Kettering Banjo Society at 7:30 p.m. on the corner of Second and Main Streets. Rum River Blend, a 4-piece acoustic band, known locally for their variety of music styles, plays music to have fun! They perform a blend of traditional bluegrass, folk, Gospel, and children’s songs.

The audience is always encouraged to join in for the sing-along and play-along fun. Linda Tatarian, the ‘leader of the band,’ plays 5-string banjo and sings lead vocals. Her husband, Chris Tatarian, plays rhythm guitar and sings back-up vocals. The bass beat is provided by Mr. ‘Smiling” Bill Benning. They are joined by the 1948 Ohio State Fiddle Champion, Mr. Carl Phillis, with 75 years of playing experience.

The Kettering Banjo Society was founded in the early 70’s and has grown to be the largest Banjo Band east of the Mississippi. A wide variety of musical styles and variations are presented by the group who are not only players of 4-string banjos, but also piano, tuba, string bass, saw, harmonica, accordion, and mandolin.

The intent of the Kettering Banjo Society is to preserve and promote the style of music made popular during the Riverboat era almost a century ago. The music and mood is happy, lively, and toe tapping. In case of inclement weather, the music program will be cancelled. For more information, call 937-667-3696.
