New Store, M & J’s, Opens in Downtown Tipp City

From the Tipp City Independent Voice:

Originally a nurse Mary Wettington healed the sick, now she cures shoppers from having to look hard for a gift as owner of ‘M & J’s’ with her husband, Phil.

The gift shop includes something for any occasion and for every age. “With women being so busy it’s my hope to give them a place to come and find a gift quick,” Wettington said.

A mother of two sons, Wettington abandoned her nursing career to raise them. Now they are grown with one in the Marine Corps and the other in the International Guard, she started a gift shop to keep herself busy.

On Saturday, May 24th, ‘M & J’s’ will celebrate the grand opening of their downtown Tipp City location on E. Main Street, previously the spot of ‘Tale of Two Sisters.’

The seed to own and operate her own business was first planted in the mind of Wettington from the silk flower bouquets she made and by her booth at craft shows. “People always asked if I had my own shop and said that I should, so it turned into a full fledged gift shop,” Wettington said.

‘M & J’s’ began to sprout as a room in the Hotel Gallery and also opened a small store in Troy. They were interested in the current Tipp City location, but it was already rented to ‘Tale of Two Sisters.’ The Wettingtons kept their eye on the property and now their dream is realized. The history of the building makes it special to Wettington and she is pleased to continue its tradition of gift stores, such as Caroline’s Corner. “I was inspired by Caroline’s Corner, she started a business later in life and was successful so she always gives me hope,” Wettington said.
