Tipp City Native Dies in Spring Break Tragedy
An Ohio college student vacationing on Hilton Head Island fell to her death from the fifth-floor balcony of a hotel late Wednesday afternoon. Sarah Merritt, 20, of Tipp City, Ohio, was pronounced dead around 4:30 p.m., Beaufort County sheriff’s Capt. Bob Bromage said. The death appeared to be accidental, he said.
Witnesses told investigators Merritt was climbing from the balcony of one hotel room to another at Comfort Inn & Suites, 2 Tanglewood Drive, when she fell roughly 60 feet, Bromage said. She had been staying at the hotel with a group of college friends for spring break.
